Post-Revenge Clarity

The 48-hour film project: two days full of stress and little sleep, but it was so awesome! We got to work with a crew of 15 people. I wrote the script, directed, and helped with the production preparations. In the end, the film was nominated for three awards, and we got to take one home.

Meet & Connect

NoMilk2Day hosts the Meet & Connect event every year, where recent graduates and engineering companies can get to know each other in a relaxed, informal way. A refreshing alternative to the standard job-application routine. That's exactly what we wanted to highlight with this short campaign. We created three videos that contrast the frustrations of the traditional, boring job-hunting process with the energy and openness of their event.

Rixle Blue

When Rixle Blue sat down with us to discuss a music video, one thing was immediately clear: it wasn't going to be a boring one. Their song "Just Do It" is about holding on to your dreams and staying connected to your inner child. To bring that to life, we created the life story of a man who's deeply attached to his passion for stuffed animals. In this video, I combined 2D animation with live-action footage for the first time and carried out façade replacements. The entire project was filmed across multiple locations in just two days, and in the end it turned out exactly the way we envisioned it.

Identified

Identified is a sci-fi short film created for a school assignment. It follows a young hacker whose unique invention puts a dictator on his trail. This was the first short film I ever made, and like many students, we didn't exactly excel in the preparation phase. Everything was shot without a script, and the story was shaped over the course of the shooting day itself.

Twisted Tunes

Twisted Tunes is an animated short video that I created together with Robine Schagen. It follows a young boy whose dream of performing a big guitar concert slowly transforms into a surreal nightmare. It was the first time both Robine and I had ever made an animation. Everything was drawn frame by frame, costing us two weeks of cramped fingers. We were incredibly happy with the final result.

Karting

After previously working with NoMilk2Day, they asked us to capture an exciting event. They had invited all their current and former secondees for a karting competition. It turned out to be a unique experience. I was filming along the track, in the pit lane, and much more.

Bad Luck Club

Bad Luck Club is a large project, my first feature film, and it's still a work in progress. Teun & Ron are sent after Fokko, a former hitman. When their attempt to take him out fails, they end up stuck with him, and soon everything changes for them. For now, only test footage from rehearsals is available, but more will follow soon.

Nait Soez'n

This is the first test version of a short-film project called Nait Soez'n. In this short film, we follow a broken, manipulative, and toxic relationship. The test version was created to explore how the dialogue between the two main characters could work. A fully developed version is still in production.

ABOUT

Max Eldering

I'm Max Eldering, a Dutch director and writer who caught the filmmaking bug back in high school and never shook it off. Since then, I've gone from animated fever dreams and wacky sci-fi shorts to co-founding Somnius, a film production company with friends, and debuting my short Post-Revenge Clarity at the 48 Hour Film Project in 2024.

Right now, I'm working on my first feature, Bad Luck Club — an '80s-inspired crime comedy about three hitmen in the Dutch countryside. Alongside that, I make shorts, music videos, and commercials.

Basically: if it's original, bold, or just plain fun, I'm in.

SOMNIUS

"Dream with eyes open"

Somnius is a film collective that helps companies and organizations tell their story with clarity and heart. We create corporate and societal films that are both visually striking and meaningful.

Our process is collaborative and down-to-earth, aimed at uncovering the essence of each story. We make films that invite audiences to reflect, connect, and take action.
